POST OF DIRECTOR, INFOFISH

Terms of Reference

The Director will be the Chief Executive and legal representative of the Intergovernmental Organization, INFOFISH and will be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  He/she will be responsible for the overall conduct of the Organization's activities and the implementation of its objectives.

Qualifications

The Director shall:

§         be a national of a Member Country of INFOFISH;

§         be above 40 and below 55 years of age as on 1^st January 2009;

§         possess an education level equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree, and preferably an advanced degree in economics, business administration, fisheries, information science or related field;

§         have held positions of responsibility at national/international level over a minimum period of eight (8) years in the field of fisheries, preferably with wide experience in international relations/international trade;

§         have complete integrity and impartiality and an ability to liaise effectively with officials of national governments, international organizations and members of the fishery industry worldwide at senior levels;

§         excellent fluency in spoken and written English.

Duration of Appointment will be three years from 1 January 2009 subject to renewal.  He/she shall be eligible for re-appointment for another term.

Salary and Benefits are commensurate with internationally recruited positions in similar organizations.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

The Director will be the legal representative of INFOFISH.  He/ she will be responsible for the overall conduct of the Organization’s activities and the implementation of its objectives.  His/ her terms of reference will be as follows:

1.                        Direct the work of INFOFISH under the guidance of the Governing Council in accordance with its policy and decisions;

2.                        Plan, direct and coordinate the work of the Organization’s staff;

3.                        Submit to the Governing Council at each regular session:

(a)               a report on the work of INFOFISH, as well as the audited accounts, and

(b)               a draft programme of work and a draft budget for the ensuing year.

4.                        Prepare and organize the sessions of the Governing Council, the Technical and Advisory Board and all other meetings of INFOFISH, and provide the Secretariat for such meetings and attend them;

5.                        Appoint staff members in accordance with the policy, general standards and guidelines laid down by the Governing Council and in accordance with the Staff Rules and Regulations; and
